In 2026, Semele Projects completed the pilot round of OUT LOUD, bringing high school students together for a focused theatre-making experience rooted in creativity, collaboration, and self-expression.
This first year opened the door for a new annual program where young artists can develop confidence, build community, and discover the power of telling stories in their own voices.
Students begin with their own ideas, experiences, questions, and imagination, shaping raw material into scenes, characters, and theatrical moments.
Through acting, movement, and ensemble exercises, participants discover how a story lives on stage, not just on the page.
Working with teaching artists, students collaborate as an ensemble to create and rehearse a new script made from their collective voices.
On the final day, students present their original work to the public, bringing their new play from rehearsal room to audience.
OUT LOUD is a high school summer theatre arts camp on the campus of Los Angeles Valley College, housed in the new Valley Academic & Cultural Center.
Across two weeks, students worked with a small group of teaching artists to imagine, write, rehearse, and present a brand new play. Guided by instructors specializing in writing, acting, movement, and more, participants built a performance from the ideas and stories that matter most to them.
OUT LOUD is designed for high school students interested in theatre, writing, acting, movement, collaboration, or creative expression. Students do not need to arrive with a finished idea or previous theatre experience. The program gives them the tools, space, and support to discover what they want to make.
This program is supported by the California Arts Council, a state agency, and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
Through this support, OUT LOUD helps create access to theatre education, new play development, and meaningful artistic mentorship for young people in Los Angeles.
